I moved to Chicago two years ago. When I started riding the CTA, I was happily astounded by all the reading I witnessed. In a society which tells us that no one is reading and print is dead, there are an awful lot of readers out there.

There was a man on the train who – every morning – I saw read stories to his Cheerio munching son. Sometimes I spotted people reading favorite books of mine and I wanted to reach out and share with them, or just hug them. One day, a man started a friendly conversation with me about a book I was reading. We passed reading recommendations back and forth. These are magical reading moments.

Then a professor asked me to look at the moon a couple times a week. It is amazing what can happen when you pause and reflect on a small part of the world around you. This site – which is a collection of who is reading what – is my way of documenting that reading is alive and well. I am pausing to celebrate the written word.
